HJ Sims Welcomes John Solarczyk as Executive Vice President, Public Finance Education

Fairfield, CT — HJ Sims (Sims), a privately held investment bank and wealth management firm founded in 1935, is pleased to announce that John Solarczyk joins the firm as Executive Vice President in their San Clemente, CA office.

John Solarczyk recently joined HJ Sims after ten years in the charter school facilities finance groups of RBC and Ziegler. He is highly regarded in public finance and has more than 30 years of banking experience. He spent most of his career as a banker at California-based De La Rosa & Co., which he joined in 1993, working as a general government and education banker.  He served as a senior underwriter on the De La Rosa & Co. trading desk from 2011 to 2014 prior to the firm’s acquisition by Stifel. As an underwriter, John focused on placing lower rated debt and educational financings (for charter schools, independent schools and school districts) for the second most active trading desk in California municipal bonds and lead the firm’s efforts in competitive sales.   Since leaving his role on the trading desk, John has focused primarily on high-yield non-profit finance, although he has continued to serve select governmental clients in California as well.  To that end, he has completed financings for the cities of Long Beach, Pomona and Commerce in recent years, including lease financings, pension obligation bonds, airport revenue bonds, water and sewer revenue bonds, and tax increment financings.

John has served educational clients across the country, having most recently completed financings for charter schools in California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico and North Carolina.  John’s recent charter school clients include Explore Academy (New Mexico), Founders Classical Academy (Nevada), John Adams Academies (California), and TRIAD Math & Science (North Carolina).  John also recently closed a $29 million financing for California Crosspoint Academy, an independent school in Northern California.

“We are thrilled to welcome John Solarczyk to the HJ Sims Investment Banking team. John’s background and extensive experience as a charter school banker will be a tremendous asset to the firm as we continue to grow our presence in the West. His knowledge, integrity and client-centered approach are vital characteristics that reinforce the values of our firm and will serve our clients well,” said Aaron Rulnick, Managing Principal.

“We welcome John Solarczyk into the HJ Sims family and look forward to growing our presence in education finance as we continue to expand our investment banking services with the collective industry knowledge and financing expertise that our new members bring. We also wish to support them as they strive to accomplish their goals,” said Rich Harmon, Senior Managing Director and Head of the Education Finance Team at Sims.
